![]() Regarding 127, I think Kick It's success could be a sign that a hit with the GP is not entirely impossible with the current sound. I agree that NCT as a whole have all the qualities they need to be a top group from talent to visuals to personality. Don’t get me wrong, they are still pushing NCT to become a top group, but they don’t seem to want to achieve that at the expense of NCT’s experimental musics.īy NCT I guess you mean 127? Dream's music has always been pretty public friendly and that's why they are arguably the most popular unit in Korea (though 127 has been catching up with their huge popularity boost this year). To answer your question “Don’t they want another EXO”, looking at the way they release music, it seems like they don’t. They don’t really need to be a top group either, they are in quite a good position already and still have space to go higher. Furthermore, EXO is more vocal focused while NCT is more rap focused, so NCT getting EXO’s songs would probably downplay their strength as a group.Īnyway, I like that NCT is experimental, and that they aren’t “another EXO” cause what’s good for them being another EXO anyway. NCT’s vocal line is better than most of their peers, but still quite behind from EXO’s. For example, a very noticeable part of EXO’s songs are the adlibs, and I can’t think of another Kpop idol who can do runs and adlibs as well as D.O. EXO’s vocal line is iconic because they are all talented individual vocalist, close in skills, have distinguishable vocal tone and distinguishable strength. I still find your notion ridiculous btw, what made those songs work was ultimately Exo themselves.ĭon’t really agree, cause a huge part of what makes EXO’s discography great is. In Exo, the focal point is always the main vocal trio (+ Kai), so it makes sense for them to go for something more gp friendly. If NCT were a vocal group and Doyong, Jaehyun and Haechan took Markyong's place as the focal point, then public friendly might suit them better. Both of their styles and tone are better suited towards experimental than public friendly imo. Exo bsides usually are of a classic rnb bent, while NCT is more modern rnb and pop, which is more public friendly I'd think.Īs I see it, NCT 127's representatives are Markyong. Since NCT seems to be entering the 1 full album + repack per year quota, we just might see something similar.Įven so, I found Neozone to be more public friendly than anything they have done? Much more than in Exo albums too. This has been so since Growl (2013), Call me baby is the closest exception. They just need a hit song that the GP will actually listen to on the daily.Įxo's main titles are experimental while repack titles are public friendly. Their physical sales are already slowly catching up to EXO (on a per album basis i think) so they have everything fandom related secured. SM just seems adamant on giving them experimental and edgy music though? LIKE WHY LOL. if they had a "Growl" or "Call Me Baby" or "Love Shot" they'd do so well. NCT already have such a huge Korean and international fandom without any "GP" hits already. I see a lot on here and Twitter about EXO have some of the best discography, and while I do not listen I have heard some and they have very GP friendly music. ![]() NCT have the faces and the talent like EXO, they just need the music. They managed to stay pretty high up, even in GP hours. ![]() I was very surprised to see Kick It debut #7 on Melon right in the middle of BTS' comeback back in early March. The Korean GP have always loved SM artists. I feel like the only thing holding the general public back from NCT is "noise" music. When I say top group, I mean finally outdo EXO's physicals sales and digitals, and be on par or start competing with BTS. ![]()
